Long ago God came into this world as a man and spoke to us of the kingdom of heaven, but we didn’t recognize it – we only sought the bread and the fishes, sight for our blind eyes, and the strength to walk... we cared little for the things above.

Now, almost 2,000 years later, we are still seeking after the earthly desires of our hearts, to have a nice family and friends, to be happy and fulfilled. We even search around until we find the "right" church, one where the people are nice, we like what we hear, and the service times fit with our schedule. Even when we seek to serve God, by doing something good to "change the world," it is often done to make us feel better about ourselves, to make us feel godly.

Many Christians in the modern world have a mind set that is still earthly, reacting to situations like any other human being would. When things get tough, people wonder where God is or why life is so frustrating, not giving much thought to the eternal view of the events and to their role in the conflict between God and Satan; when things are going smoothly, they assume that they are pleasing God and living in His will, not realizing that Satan may simply be distracting them with earthly success.

Focusing on Things Above is about changing the way you think about every detail of life as well as the big picture, realizing that there are eternal ramifications to everything that happens, to every decision that is made and every action that is taken. When you set your mind on things above – everything changes.

This site is designed to work in unison with our lectures on how to answer such basic questions as:

  • "What is God’s eternal will for all creation?"
  • "What is God’s eternal will for all humans?"
  • "What is God’s eternal will for all Christians?"
  • "What is God’s present, specific will for me?"
  • "How do I find God’s specific will for my life?"
  • "How does the faith of the Bible differ from all other types of faith?"
  • "Now that I know these truths, what should I do about it?"
  • These are some of the most important questions a Christian will ever ask. These are questions that we all need to answer in order to live life with our Lord Jesus Christ within the turmoil of this modern world. While the answers to these questions may be hard to obtain from our friends and our church, they are presented quite clearly in the Bible. With these questions answered it is much easier to keep the following commandment:

"Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." ~ Colossians 3:1-2

    The God ~ Satan Conflict

    • Satan is an angelic being who was created by God and was obedient to God’s rulership.

      Colossians 1:16-17; Job 38:1-8; Psalm 103:19-20

    • Satan chose to rebel against God and thus established his own area of rulership.

      Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:12-19; Revelation 12:4; Genesis 3:1-7; 2 Corinthians 2:4

    • God revealed His plan to destroy Satan’s rulership and to use humans to accomplish this goal.

      Genesis 3:15

    • Christ came, as a human, to begin the destruction of Satan’s rulership; He handed this work off to His present “body” (Christians) and the work continues until God’s new eternal rulership is established.

      1 John 3:8; Hebrews 10:12-13; Acts 2:34-35; Romans 16:20; 1 Corinthians 15:24; Revelation 20:1-21:1

    • Because of this Satan has always tried, and is still trying today, to destroy us (humans).

      Genesis 3:1-15; Job 1-2; Zechariah 3:1-2, 1 Peter 5:8; Ephesians 6:12

    • It is our responsibility to stand firm against Satan’s attacks and to obey only God in our daily life.

      James 4:7-8; Ephesians 1:18-23; 3:10; 6:12-13; 1 Peter 5:8-9
